Here I present: PAUL BERG, “Dissections & Reconstructions of Genes & Chromosomes”, Chemistry Nobel Lecture, 8 December 1980.
INTRODUCTION.
“Hindsight is twenty-twenty (20/20) vision”. In the history-of-science, Paul Berg is known for inventing the “recombinant DNA technique”. The “molecular biology industry” that began in the mid-1970’s was founded upon “recombinant DNA methodology”. In his 8 December 1980, Chemistry Nobel Prize Lecture: Paul Berg described this revolutionary technical achievement that transformed bioinformatics. Bioinformatics is DNA sequence data. Informatics is computer science. Today, recombinant DNA and computer networks are part of modern culture. The lecture by Stanford University, Medical School professor of Biochemistry Paul Berg was a historic event acknowledging that recombinant DNA was here to stay.
