INTRODUCTION.
Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a group of inflammatory conditions of the colon and small intestine, with Crohn’s disease and Ulcerative colitis being the principal types.
Crohn’s disease affects the small intestine and large intestine, as well as the mouth, esophagus, stomach and the anus, whereas Ulcerative colitis primarily affects the colon and the rectum.
There is evidence of genetic heterogeneity of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD3), including Crohn disease and ulcerative colitis is caused by mutation on cytogenetic location 6p21.3 and genomic coordinates 6:30,500,001-36,600,000. The screenshot of the IBD3 gene 6,100,000 bp (base pairs) of DNA sequence length is shown BELOW. Nine (9) other genes besides IBD3 in the 6p21.3 cytogenetic location are listed BENEATH.
