INTRODUCTION.
Arthur Koestler, “Act of Creation”, 1964 book is a study of creativity in humor, art and science. It lays out creativity in the diagram ABOVE as linear from objective (verifiable) to subjective (emotional).
Linearity from: chemistry-biochemistry-biology-medicine-psychology-anthropology-history-biography-novel-epic-lyric as depicted schematically ABOVE.
Chemistry is shown as verifiably (objective) in the chart above. Lyric is subjective (emotional). My problem is melody-writing so I have my Arthur C. Edwards practice book in melody-writing. I am frustrated for the Arthur Koestler curve ABOVE is about creativity. I want a melody that I can add lyrics for singing by a vocalist.
COMMENTS.
In my melody-writing frustration I recall the chemist John Newlands who discovered “periodicity” of chemical elements’ shown BELOW. It is piano keyboard ABCDEFG notes (octave). The creativity of John Newlands was too much establishment thinkers. Dmitri Mendeleev a non-musician using Newlands creativity satisfied establishment thinkers. Just intonation is the tuning most easily performed by voice of lyrics. If you look at the fractions in the table ABOVE the numbers are simple for Just intonation. the simple fractions cause the listener to perceive pleasure in the melody.
