Victor McKusick, “Mendelian Inheritance in Man: Catalogue of Human Genes and Genetic Disorders”, 1966 was the topic of an earlier blog post.
Here I present: J. Yunis & O. Prakash, “The Origin of Man: A Chromosomal Pictorial Legacy”, Science, year 1982, volume 215, pages 1525-1530.
In this publication the authors concluded that 18 of 23 chromosomes are identical in hominine species (human, chimpanzee, gorilla).
The number two (#2) chromosome’ is a Robertson fusion of a pair. BELOW the human chromosomes’ are on the left (symbol HSA for human). If you look at the chromosome number’ two (#2) BELOW, you can see the difference between Great Ape & Human. Yunis

The purpose of biological systematics is to create an organization of groupings. The groups are used for the “binomial nomenclature” of the general & specific.
Genus species of humans is Homo sapiens; and, it results from thesaurus organization of words. Chromosome comparison is used for thesaurus of binomial nomenclature. BELOW is the terms used to speak about humans in a zoological context.
Again, it is about language; and, chromosomes help to use the proper language in discussion of humans.
