Agnes White-Tizard, “Betty Crocker’s” Cooking School of the Air”, 1924 was the topic of an earlier blog post. Also, Harland Sanders (1890-1980), “Twenty Favorite Recipes of Colonel Harland Sanders”, 1954 was the topic of an earlier blog post. Here I present: Duncan Hines (1880-1959), “The Dessert Cookbook”, 2002 which was a cookbook by the famous restaurant reviewer.
Bowling Green, Kentucky is place associated with Duncan Hines. Similarly, Corbin Kentucky is the birthplace of the KFC chicken franchise of Harland Sanders.
”Sweet” versus “savory” recipes are the differences between the two men. Harland Sanders was “savory” cooking; and, Duncan Hines was “sweet” baking.
“Chocolate Cake Supreme” (“black copy”, shown above) in is my absolute favorite recipe by Mr. Duncan Hines. “Duncan Hines”, “Betty Crocker” & “Pillsbury” are the three top cake mix products today.
Duncan Hines (1880-1959), “The Dessert Cookbook”, 2002 is a cookbook of dessert recipes for people not using “box cake mix”.
