INTRODUCTION.
Thea Von Harbou, “Metropolis”, 1925 was a German “economics” science-fiction novel. The 1920’s were a decade of rapid technological progress. The representation of The State, as a tyrannical corporation in dystopian fiction is Thea Von Harbou’s, “Metropolis”, 1925. The main characters are Freder and Maria, a couple of lovers. Maria is lower class than Freder (his father is the City Founder). The love story setting is futuristic (2026 a hundred years in the future). Maria is the protagonist (“soft” science of economics is the basis of the storyline). The protagonist Maria has a “Foil” character that is a “fembot” (female robot). The writer Thea Von Harbou was German; and “Metropolis” is often studied as propaganda. Thea Von Harbou, was married to Fritz Lang, and he made a 1927 film adaptation of “Metropolis” the novel.

Theatre & Cinema are literary genre’s with “words” used differently from the other four (4) literary genre’s.
De Forest Phonofilm (1922–1925) :De Forest’s major contribution to cinema was Phonofilm, one of the earliest sound-on-film systems. Phonofilm recorded sound optically directly onto the film strip.
