INTRODUCTION.
Wilms tumor is the most common renal tumor of childhood, with a median age of diagnosis between 3 to 4 years of age. Wilms tumors are thought to develop from abnormally persistent embryonal cells within nephrogenic rests. Histologically, Wilms tumor mirrors the development of the normal kidney and classically consists of 3 cell types: blastema, epithelia, and stroma.
There is evidence that susceptibility to Wilms tumor type-5 is conferred by heterozygous mutation in the POU6F2 gene on cytogenetic location 7p14.1 and genomic coordinates 7:38,977,909-39,468,601. The screenshots of the POU6F2 gene 490,693 bp (base pairs) of DNA sequence length is shown BELOW. Nine (9) other genes besides POU6F2 in the 7p14.1 cytogenetic location are listed BENEATH.
