INTRODUCTION.
Type-1 diabetes mellitus, also designated insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM), is a disorder of glucose homeostasis characterized by susceptibility to ketoacidosis in the absence of insulin’ therapy.
There is evidence that insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus is caused by mutation in the IDDM1 gene on cytogenetic location 6p21.3 and genomic coordinates 6:30,500,001-36,600,000. The screenshot of the IDDM1 gene 6,100,000 bp (base pairs) of DNA sequence length is shown BELOW. Nine (9) other genes besides IDDM1 in the 6p21.3 cytogenetic location are listed BENEATH.
