Abraham Nemeth, “Nemeth Code for Braille Mathematics”, 1972 was the topic of an earlier blog post.
Here I present: “Braille Code for Chemical Notation”, American Printing House for the Blind, 1997.
INTRODUCTION.
My motivation for this blog post the Persian language film by Majid Majidi, “The Color of Paradise”, 1999. More specifically, the protagonist Mohammad (a blind boy) in the film. The antagonist Hashem the father of the boy is the basis of the film plot. The plot of the film is the protagonist-antagonist dynamic of blindness. Braille is what protagonist Mohammad is good at mathematics, music & science written in Braille.
COMMENTS.
ATOP the page is Persian Braille script along with a “Braillewriter” (braille typewriter). BENEATH are sample pages from the book “Braille Code for Chemical Notation”, American Printing House for the Blind, 1997. I personally think tactical sense is a better way of thinking of chemical molecules. The examples BELOW are of Adenine, Guanine, Cytosine of the DNA sequences. Tactical representation as illustration in chemistry is beneficial to non-blind students. Chemical perception by alternative tactical to visual thinking is beneficial to chemistry.
