Arthur C. Edwards, “Practical Lessons in Melody Writing”, PART THREE (3) was the topic of an earlier blog post. I introduced Stevie Wonder, “Ribbon in the Sky” in PART THREE (3), and it is shown ABOVE.
Here I present: Arthur C. Edwards, “Practical Lessons in Melody Writing”, PART FIVE (5). I going discuss song lyric parody of a Stevie Wonder, “Pastime Paradise” chorus. The Al Yankovic video clip of the “Pastime Paradise” parody is ABOVE.
INTRODUCTION.
Stevie Wonder, “Pastime Paradise” is the song parody I am presenting. Rap musician Coolio used the music in his “Gangsta Paradise”; followed by Al Yankovic lyrical parody of the melody. Humorist Al Yankovic lyrical parody “Amish Paradise” of the “CHORUS” is BENEATH, the Stevie Wonder original “CHORUS” BELOW. Again, this “parody”, which is “freedom of speech”.
[Chorus: Stevie Wonder]
They’ve been spending most their lives
Living in a pastime paradise
They’ve been spending most their lives
Living in a pastime paradise
They’ve been spending most their lives
Living in a future paradise
They’ve been spending most their lives
Living in a future paradise
We’ve been spending too much of our lives
Living in a pastime paradise
Let’s start living our lives
Living for the future paradise
Praise to our lives
Living for the future paradise
Shame to anyone’s life
Living in a pastime paradise
[Chorus: Al Yankovic]
We been spending most our lives
Living in an Amish paradisе
I’ve churned butter oncе or twice
Living in an Amish paradise
It’s hard work and sacrifice
Living in an Amish paradise
We sell quilts at discount price
Living in an Amish paradise
