SUMMARY.
This novel is split into two parts: “The Utopographer in the Garden”; and, the “Advent”. The former is set on the Italian Riveria where the protagonist married, British couple Philip and Cynthia Rylands entertain guest. The latter, written largely in the form of letters between the Ryland couple during the husband’s trip to London, provides the commentary on the 1920’s British political landscape. The book is a detailed discussion of Utopia, Socialism and Communism in the mind of H. G. Wells.

The books ABOVE are a timeline of SciFi; and, the dark-blue is Jules Verne & light-blue is H. G. Wells.

Other writers, such as Mary Shelley & Edgar Allen Poe (before Verne-Wells); and, Rudyard Kipling & Edgar Rice Burroughs (after Verne-Wells) helped establish the genre of SciFi, shown ABOVE.
The other French writer of this era Victor Hugo & Alexandre Dumas are not SciFi writers like Jules Verne. The writings in French of Victor Hugo, “Hunchback of Notre-Dame”, 1831 & Alexandre Dumas, “The Three Musketeers”, 1844 are not SciFi storytelling.
