Koribian Brodmann, “Localization in the Cerebral Cortex ( ‘Vergleichende Lokalisationslehre der Grosshirnrinde’ )”, 1909 was a nonfiction, medical publication in the German language. The cerebral
cortex “areas” are designated by numbers from 1 to 52 (shown in the diagram above [lateral & medial surface]). The “layers” of tissue depth in a given area are designated by Roman numerals from I to VI of histology (shown in the diagram below). The notation “R-1-I” refers to the right, cerebral hemisphere, “Brodmann area #1”: and, “I-molecular layer (depth)…..Again, the notation is: (right/left “hemisphere”)_(1 to 52 “areas”)_(I to VI “layers”).
Koribian Brodmann, “Localization in the Cerebral Cortex ( ‘Vergleichende Lokalisationslehre der Grosshirnrinde’ )” , 1909 was a nonfiction, medical publication that is famous because the “cerebrum hemispheres” are designated on the basis of cell structure. This was a historic first, and the Brodmann areas are today’s standard designation of human cerebrum.
