Terrence Deacon, “The Symbolic Species: The Co-Evolution of Language and Brain“, 1997 was the topic of an earlier blog. Carl Sagan, “Broca’s Brain: Reflections on the Romance of Science”, 1979 was nonfiction science writing on neurolinguistics as well. Pierre Paul Broca was a French neurologist that discovered that “aphasia” (language absence) is located in the cerebrum left hemisphere, frontal lobe. Both Terrence Deacon, and Carl Sagan write interesting books. However, Carl Sagan hoped to find “Broca Brain” tissue using radio telescopes to communicate with extraterrestrials. Terrence Deacon’s search includes “Broca Brain” tissue not yet found in apes.
