Papillary Thyroid Carcinoma (PTC) is the most common type of thyroid cancer, accounting for approximately 80% to 90% of all cases. It is generally a slow-growing, well-differentiated cancer that originates in the thyroid’s follicular cells. While it can occur at any age, it is most frequently diagnosed in adults between ages 30 and 50 and is about three times more common in women than men.
Chromosome 10 in Thyroid Cancer
Papillary Thyroid Carcinoma (PTC):
PTEN mutations (10q23) → PI3K/AKT pathway activation
Often sporadic or part of PTEN Hamartoma Tumor Syndrome.
Medullary Thyroid Carcinoma (MTC):
RET mutations (10q11) → MAPK/ERK signaling pathway activation.
