Here I present: “Man-mouse Synteny Homology“, Victor McKusick, Mendelian Inheritance in Man’, 1966. CONTINUED.
Laboratory Mouse genetic makeup is primarily derived from the Mus musculus domesticus variety.
The genetic history of common laboratory mice, such as the C57BL/6 strain, is mixed and traces back to “fancy mice” bred in Europe and Asia.
Variety contributions to laboratory mouse.
M. m. domesticus: This Western European variety contributes the majority (68% to 92%) of the genetic material to modern laboratory mouse.
M. m. musculus: This Eastern European & Middle Eastern variety contributes a significant (about 6%) of the genome.
M. m. castaneus: This South & Southeast Asian variety contributes minor genetic material.
M. m. molossinus: This Japanese variety also contributes trace amounts of genetic material.
