INTRODUCTION.
Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease type-4D (CMT4D) is an autosomal recessive disorder of the peripheral nervous system characterized by early-onset distal muscle weakness and atrophy, foot deformities, and sensory loss affecting all modalities. Affected individuals develop deafness by the third decade of life.
There is evidence Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease type-4D (CMT4D) is caused by homozygous mutation in the N-myc downstream-regulated gene-1 (NDRG1) gene on cytogenetic location 8q24.22 and genomic coordinates 8:133,237,175-133,297,252. The screenshot of the NDRG1 60,078 bp (base pairs) of DNA sequence length is shown BELOW. Nine (9) other genes besides NDRG1 in the 8q24.22 cytogenetic location are listed BENEATH.
