INTRODUCTION.
Venous thrombosis (VT) is the blockage of a vein caused by a thrombus (blood clot).
A common form of venous thrombosis is deep vein thrombosis, (DVT) when a blood clot forms in the deep veins. If a thrombus breaks off (embolizes) and flows to the lungs to lodge there, it becomes a pulmonary embolism (blood clot in the lungs).
There is evidence susceptibility to venous thrombosis (VT) can be conferred by heterozygous mutation in the coagulation factor XIII-A1 gene (F13A1) on cytogenetic location 6p25.1 and genomic coordinates 6:6,144,084-6,320,662. The screenshot of the F13A1 gene 176,579 bp (base pairs) of DNA sequence length is shown BELOW. Nine (9) other genes besides F13A1 in the 6p25.1 cytogenetic location are listed BENEATH.
