Phoebus Levene (1869-1940), “Uber die Hefenucleinsaure (About the Yeast Nucleic Acid”, 1909 was the topic of an earlier blog post.
Here I present: V Bloomfield, D Crothers, I Tinoco, “Physical Chemistry of Nucleic Acids”, 1974. PART TWO (2). 核酸の物理化学。
INTRODUCTION.
Bloomfield-Crothers-Tinoco, 1974 is a good source for DNA history. DNA was believed to be an organic molecule of molecular formula C39H51O25N15P4 according to 1909 study by Phoebus Levene. X-ray crystallography of DNA in 1952 provided evidence for not accepting the Phoebus Levene viewpoint. Other DNA structures are listed BELOW, including the 1953 B-DNA model Watson-Crick.
A-DNA: 11 base turn molecules.
B-DNA: 10 base turn (Watson-Crick).
C-DNA: 9.3 base turn molecules.
D-DNA: 8 base turn molecules.
Z-DNA: turn is left-handed.
