Here I present: “Familial Adenomatous Polyposis”, Victor McKusick, Mendelian Inheritance in Man’, 1966.
Familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP) is an autosomal dominant inherited condition in which numerous adenomatous polyps form mainly in the epithelium of the large intestine. While these polyps start out benign, malignant transformation into colon cancer occurs when they are left untreated. FAP is characterized by the development of hundreds to thousands of adenomatous polyps in the colon and rectum, usually starting in adolescence. FAP is primarily caused by germline mutations in the APC gene, located on cytogenetic location 5q22.2 and genomic coordinate 5:112,707,498-112,846,239 the screenshot of the 138,742 bp (base pairs) is shown BELOW of the DNA length.
