INTRODUCTION.
Chromosome #11 & #21 were sequenced by Japan (shown ABOVE). The national flags under chromosomes are US & UK mostly; as, most of the sequencing was done by anglophone US & UK. Yoshiyuki Sakaki 榊 佳之, is a Japanese biochemist; and, writes his memoir of the human genome project (HGP).
The human genome project (HGP) was first conceived by the Department of Energy (DOE), and later the National Institute of Health (NIH) in the United States in 1983. Governments sponsored sequencing was performed in twenty (20) universities and research centres in the United States, the United Kingdom, Japan, France, Germany, and China.

COMMENTS.
The human genome project was first proposed by the Department of Energy (DOE) in the United States. A means of obtaining intact DNA molecules in the chromosomal organelles by FACS (fluorescence-activated cell sorting) you use Spectroscopy for sorting each particular chromosome type.
The first prototype sorter for FACS was built at the Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) in 1965 by physicist Mack J. Fulwyler by joining a Coulter volume sensor with the newly invented ink jet printer.

Live-cell sorter, or fluorescence-activated cell sorter (FACS) was generated by Len Herzenberg, who subsequently won the Japanese government Kyoto Prize in 2006 for his seminal work.
Yoshiyuki Sakaki 榊 佳之, biochemist in his memoir describes what did not exist “digital books”. The human genome project (HGP) was conceived as a computer network when “Ethernet jacks” had just come on the scene; and, the World Wide Web of the had internet just begun.
