The foil character is “Professor Helsing”, a vampire hunter. Count Dracula is planning to leave Transylvania for England in search of fresh blood. The story is horror fantasy, and not Science Fiction. The universe in “fantasy” does operate by scientific laws. Bram Stoker, “Dracula”, 1897 is a “horror world” of fantastic events. Gothic horror is often a sub-genre of Science Fiction; however, this is not the case in vampire stories. The distinction between science-fiction and fantasy-horror is often vague. Bram Stoker, “Dracula”, 1897 is the vampire story that began a cultural icon of films as well as fiction.
