Isaac Asimov, “I, Robot”, 1950.

Isaac Asimov, “I, Robot”, 1950 was a science-fiction novel about a company that makes robots. Its also the title of film versions of the novel. Comic actor Will Smith plays the lead role in an well-known film adaptation.  Isaac Asimov was a professor of biochemistry, in addition to being a writer.   Asimov’s “Three Robotic Laws” are the basis of the story plot.

1. A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction allow a human being to come     to harm.

2. A robot must obey the orders given it by human beings except where such order would         conflict with the First Law.

3.  A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.
