INTRODUCTION.

Eukaryotes use at least 2 pathways to repair DNA double-strand breaks: homologous recombination and nonhomologous end joining (NHEJ). The core NHEJ machinery includes XRCC4, DNA ligase IV (LIG4), and the DNA-dependent protein kinase complex, which consists of the DNA end-binding Ku70 (G22P1)/Ku80 (XRCC5) heterodimer and the catalytic subunit PRKDC.

There is evidence  X-ray repair-cross complementing-4 (XRCC4) is encoded on cytogenetic location 5q14.2 and genomic coordinates 5:83,077,547-83,374,473. The screenshot of the XRCC4 gene 296,927 bp (base pairs) of DNA sequence length is shown BELOW.  Nine (9) other genes besides XRCC4 in the 5q14.2 cytogenetic location are listed BENEATH.
