Gregor Mendel (1822-1884), “Experiments in Plant Hybridization”, 1866.

Here I present: Gregor Mendel (1822-1884), “Experiments in Plant Hybridization”, 1866 which was on breeding of a domesticated plant.

Gregor Mendel, through his work on pea plants, discovered the fundamental laws of inheritance.  He deduced that genes come in pairs and are inherited as distinct units, one from each parent.

Gregor Mendel’s three (3) laws of inheritance were:

_Segregation Law.

_Independent Assortment.

_Dominance Law.

The “ternary graph plot” is a triangular illustration of Mendel’s Three (3) Laws (#1. segregation, #2. independent-assortment & #3. dominance).   The symbols Aa AA aa represent three (3) genotypes.    The genotypes represent the polymorphism (form “A“, form “a“) for a bi-allelic locus.   Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium curve is shown on the graph.

Victor McKusick, “Mendelian Inheritance in Man”, 1966 also was the topic of an earlier blog post.    In 1966 the “genetic code” (shown ABOVE) was deciphered: and, Victor McKusick published his book “Mendelian Inheritance in Man“, 1966.

The century from Gregor Mendel in 1866; thus, to “genetic code” decipherment in 1966 was the motivation for the book Victor McKusick, “Mendelian Inheritance in Man“.
