Peter Ladefoged & Ian Maddieson, “The Sounds of the World’s Languages”, 1996 was the subject of an earlier blog post (click hyperlink).
Here I present: William F. Katz, “Phonetics for Dummies”, 2013.
INTRODUCTION.
William F. Katz, “Phonetics for Dummies”, 2013 is a book consisting of five (5) parts listed BELOW.
Part I: “Getting Started with Phonetics”.
Part II: “Speculating about English Speech Sounds”.
Part III: “Having a Blast: Sound, Waveforms, and Speech Movement”.
Part IV: “Going Global with Phonetics”.
Part V: “The Part of Tens”.
COMMENTS.
Peter Ladefoged & Ian , “The Sounds of the World’s Languages”, 1996 was the subject of an earlier blog post. This is a reference book, not a book for beginners in phonetics. William F. Katz, “Phonetics for Dummies”, 2013 is a book for the beginner, and it’s assumption is to present the “international phonetic alphabet” (IPA) to those just starting in “speech science”.
