INTRODUCTION.
CD36 is a fatty acid translocase (FAT) that transports long-chain fatty-acids (LCFA) and cholesterol across the plasma membrane (PM).
There is evidence a common haplotype in the CD36 gene on cytogenetic location 7q21.11 and genomic coordinates 7:80,602,207-80,679,274 is associated with high free fatty acid levels and increased risk of coronary artery disease (CAD).
