INTRODUCTION.

A taste receptor is a type of cellular receptor that facilitates the sensation of taste. When food or other substances enter the mouth, molecules interact with saliva and are bound to taste receptors in the oral cavity and other locations. Molecules which give a sensation of taste are considered “sapid“.

TAS2R1 belongs to a family of intronless genes that encode highly related bitter taste receptors (TAS2Rs). TAS2Rs are G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), which are characterized by 7 transmembrane domains.

There is evidence that taste receptor, family-B, member-7 (TRB7) is encoded on cytogenetic location 5p15.31-p15.2 and genomic coordinates 5:9,627,347-9,903,876 . The screenshot of the TRB7 gene 276,530 bp (base pairs) of DNA sequence length is shown BELOW.  Nine (9) other genes besides TRB7 in the 5p15.31-p15.2 cytogenetic location are listed BENEATH.
