Victor McKusick, ”Mendelian Inheritance in Man”, 1966, Chromosome Y, PART TWO (II).

Victor McKusick, “Mendelian Inheritance in Man”, 1966, Chromosome Y was the topic of an earlier blog post.

Here I present: Victor McKusick, Mendelian Inheritance in Man’ 1966, Chromosome Y, PART TWO (II).

INTRODUCTION.

This blog post is for those people who got results from DNA companies, such as Ancestry, Familytree, 23&Me … etcetera.  I going give a lesson on “reading regions”.

Using Microsoft Word, which a “read-aloud” function in the word processor you can learn chromosome “region reading”. BELOW are traits from the Gateway poster (free in Wikipedia). If you paste the text BELOW into Microsoft Word it will “read regions” back to you.

Region Y1p1 Traits.

Short stature homeo-box, X-linked. SHOX

Short stature. SHOXY

Leri-Weill dyschondrosteosis. LWD

Langer mesomelic dysplasia.  LMD

Interleukin-3 receptor, Y-chromosomal.  IL3RA

Sex-determining region Y (testis determining).  SRY

Region Y1q1 Traits.

Gonadal dysgenesis, XY type. GDMN

Protocadherin 11, Y-linked.  PCDH11Y

Azoospermia factors.  AZF

Male infertility due  to spermatogenic failure.  SPGFY2

Growth control, Y-chromosome influenced.  GCY

Chromodomain proteins.   CDY1

Retinitis pigmentosa, Y-linked.  RPY

COMMENTS.

Banding patterns (as shown BELOW) designate “region reading”.  Chromosome #7 is shown BELOW as an example.

Microsoft Word read-aloud function, will allow you play back, the traits. Over and over, you listen to regions being stated to you – you will come to learn chromosomes.  Gateway chromosomes are free on Wikipedia; and, most people have used Ancestry, Familytree and 23&Me. The eighty-seven (87)reading regions” in the human genome are shown BELOW.
