INTRODUCTION.

 The “Mediterranean Basin” consists of three (3) continents: Asia, Africa & Europe. African countries of: Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Egypt are not part of the Mediterranean Diet’.  Asian countries of Turkey, Syria, Israel, Lebanon also are not part of the Mediterranean Diet’.

COMMENTS.

The United Nations “Food Agricultural Organization” (FAO) uses twelve (12) botanical zones (shown BELOW).  

Zone seven (#7) is the FAO region referred to as “Mediterranean” by the United Nations.  The crops domesticated first in regions six (6), seven (7) & eight (8) are listed BELOW.  Wheat was domesticated in regions #6, #7, #8. Grape was #6, #7 domesticated in regions.   Mediterranean is a term used by different people, meaning different things.
