SUMMARY.
Kukai was born in Japan in the year 774 AD.In 791 AD, Kukai began studying at the Daigaku-ryo University in Nara, Japan. This government university was founded in 728 AD.
In 797 AD, Kukai wrote his first book “Sango Shiki”.
In 804 AD, Kukai leaves Japan traveling to China.
Kukai spent thirty (30) months in China; and, then Kukai returned to Japan in 806 AD. While in China, Kukai attended the Ximing Temple which was founded in 656 AD.
In 816 AD, the emperor granted Kukai permission to build a monastic center on Mount Koya, Wakayama Prefecture, Japan. Here Kukai established Shingon Esoteric Buddhism as a Japanese religion.
