Edgar Rice Burroughs, “Tarzan the of the Apes”, 1912 also was the topic of an earlier blog post.

Here I present: Bibhutibhushan Bandyopadhyay বিভূতিভূষণ বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়ের “Mountains of the Moon” চাঁদের পাহাড় Chander Pahar, 1937 which was an “African-adventure” SciFi by an Indian writer.

BELOW is a list African explorers from 1795 to 1900. This exploration leads to African-adventure SciFi.  Two famous examples were “Tarzan of the Apes”, 1912 & “Mountain of the Moon”, 1937.

The story “Mountain of the Moon” is set in pre-World War-I, 1909-1910.
“Shankar Roy” is the protagonist in ‘Mountain of the Moon” who is an Indian from  Bengal. . But, West Bengal is not what Shankar Roy dreams of. His dreams are of African explorers that are his heroes. Thus, after leaving shool Shankar Roy leaves for East Africa. He gets a clerk job with the Uganda Railway.  In the construction of the Uganda Railway “man-eating” African lions had eaten dozens railroad construction workers. That fact of “man-eating” lions was the inspiration for Bibhutibhushan Bandyopadhya to write an African-adventure SciFi.  “Shankar Roy” like “Tarzan” went onto be franchise media in the popular culture.
