Boye Lafayette De Mente, “Kodansha Tokyo Subway Guide”, 2002 was “guide-book” that was bilingual English & Japanese.   1. Chuo, 2. Shibuya, 3. Minato, 4. Toshima,  5. Taito,  6. Shinjuku & 7. Chiyoda are the core “wards” of the chikatetsu” 地下鉄 (the Japanese word for subway) as shown in the map below.   The “Yamanote ” loop of “JR” (Japan Railways) is shown as the black-line that encircles the 7-core “wards” of Tokyo. 
 
Clockwise from the top the 16 “Yamanote” stations are: Komagome, Nishi-Nippori, Ueno, Akihabara, Kanda, Tokyo, Yurakucho, Shinbashi, Shinagawa, Meguro, Ebisu, Shibuya, Harajuku, Shinjuku, Takadanobaba & Ikebukuro.
