Amy 植松 Uyematsu, “Nights of Fire, Nights of Rain (Poems)”, 1997 was a collection of English poetry.  I attended the “annual author  luncheon” in 2012 at the Little Tokyo Branch Library of the Los Angeles Public Library.  Amy Uyematsu was the writer recognized for the 2012 award, which was the 26th award beginning in 1989 with the 1st award to Japanese-American writers.

Amy 植松 Uyematsu, “Nights of Fire, Nights of Rain (Poems)”, 1997 was a collection of English poetry.  Amy Uyematsu poem “Deliberate” is shown above; and, it is an example of the poetry she wrote over the decades.  Amy  Uyematsu as activist was the first to coin the term “Yellow Power” (with meaning the same as “Black Power”).  In her “day-job” she was mathematics teacher for over three decades, besides writing five books of poetry.
