Hermann Hesse, “Siddhartha: An Indian Tale”, 1922 was a historical novel of the biography of The Buddha. The protagonist in the novel goes through a storyline loosely based of the life and sites of The Buddha. The four holy sites in the life of Siddhartha are as follows.

1. Lumbini, Nepal: where Siddhartha is born into the Sakya clan (referred to as Sakyamuni) as a prince.

2. Bodh-Gaya: where Siddhartha attains Enlightenment under the Bodhi Tree.

3. Sarnath: where Siddhartha gives his first “Dharma” sermon to five disciples of the “Sangha”.

4. Kushinara, India: where Siddhartha dies and goes Nirvana.

Hermann Hesse, “Siddhartha: A Novel”, 1922 was a biographical novel loosely based on the life of Siddhartha The Buddha. Hermann Hesse won the 1946 Literature Nobel Prize and is one of Germany’s all time greatest poets.
