Ernst Ruska, “The Development of the Electron Microscope and of Early Electron Microscopy”, Nobel Prize Lecture, 1986 was a transcript of the lecture by Nobel laureate Ernst Ruska. In science fiction novels, two optical instruments that are essential are: telescopes and microscopes. The history of the person first with telescope or microscope is debatable. In contrast, the radio-telescope and the electron-microscope begun with known individuals without debate. Ernst Ruska was the person who began electron-microscopy and it is beyond dispute. On 8 December 1986, Ernst Ruska was awarded a Nobel Prize for inventing the electron microscope. But, Physics Nobel laureate, Ernst Ruska received the award nearly 50 years after his microscope research began. That was the reason I wrote this blog post; Ernst Ruska was a student when he started and finally recognized.
